Chatsworth Project

Lewis Noble is to spend a year working with Chatsworth making a body of work in response to the estate. This unique and exciting project will take place throughout 2008 - 2009 and will culminate in a major exhibition at the Hart Gallery, London in May 2009. The exhibition will also preview at Chatsworth.

Lewis spent two months at Chatsworth in 2001 as part of the Vickers Art Award , (of which he was the first recipient). ‘I’m relishing the idea of returning to Chatsworth and I want to produce paintings that reflect to the many different aspects of place. I can’t say exactly what form the finished work will take as I always like to respond directly to what I see and experience. I don’t want to put any limitations on it’

Chatsworth has a very lively and important arts programme - including the ‘Beyond Limits’ sculpture exhibitions with Sotheby’s, so to be working in this environment for a such prolonged period of time makes this project all the more extraordinary.
In addition to producing the paintings, there will be several opportunities over the year to meet the artist, discuss aspects of his work and attend talks.

You will be able to follow his progress on the Lewis Noble Chatsworth Project Website. Here you will find the artist’s blog, image diary and view artwork as it is completed. Information will also be available throughout the year by visiting Chatsworth’s Official Website.
